…how tired you were. I’m not complaining-I’m praising you for coming out to rehearsal instead of packing it in for the evening at home. It was a Nuts and Bolts rehearsal where we gradually chipped away at rhythms and dynamics. The musicianship of these pieces will come next. That’s the fun part where we do run throughs and fine tune expression. Thanks again for your commitment to the music and to your fellow musicians.. This is a major reason we are so good-your commitment

By the end of today there should be 2 new pieces uploaded for you-Visions of Sugar Plums and Feliz Navidad. These are easy pieces that will help fill out the program and yet, inspire our audience. I might add White Christmas but that’s a maybe. I usually aim for a 60 minute concert to be fair to our audience.

Clarinets: I am well aware of the expectation I have put upon you with the 16th note rapid tonguing in Come Celebrate. I’m going to revisit those few measures and come up with something more appropriate that will enhance what the brass is playing at those times. A new work often must go through revisions. (Beethoven went through several versions of his 5th symphony before it became what we have today.)

Angels Carol – We’re going to have to cut back on players for this one. The arrangement is simply too heavy to be performed with singers. For instance, Trumpets and Trombones , I may cut it back to ONE-PER-PART. In this case we can take turns within each section. I’ll explain later.

For next Thursday night…

Feliz Navidad for sight-reading

Visions of Sugar Plums for sight reading

A Christmas Festival measure 218 to the end for detail, then a straight run-through of the piece

Greensleeves for detail

Christmas in the Islands for detail then runthrough

Angels Carol for balance.

Thanks for all you do!

Jim
