Band Members,
One week and counting !!
Jim envisioned this Sousa tribute at the Academy three years ago right after the second ever rehearsal of the brand spanking new Lynchburg Pops. I thought he might have been a bit optimistic and far-reaching after only two rehearsals. Two years of COVID and one year and three concerts under our belt and the Sousa Spectacular will happen next week !
Obviously, this Thursday’s rehearsal is critical. Jim has already spoken to that.
I will be bringing 900 programs with me on Thursday night 800 of which need to be stuffed with a survey card and a remittance envelope. If you can come 15 minutes earlier than you usually do, please help stuff these programs. Many hands make for light work.
I will also be bringing the purple tie box and ask that all men take their tie this Thursday night and return them at the first rehearsal after the concert. PLEASE don’t hand me your tie after the concert next Wednesday. I will not have the tie box with me at the Academy. I will be tending to many other things.
Speaking of which, you should be aware that a team will be meeting at 3:00 pm Next Wednesday, with a borrowed van commandeered by our own associate conductor, Steve Williams, at EC. Glass to load percussion instruments. The van will already have 20 stands and chairs loaned by Liberty HS. Mike Reeves (VP) has everything worked out with Market at Main and the food will be delivered by 6:00 pm in the downstairs meeting room. I will be bringing 75 small bottles of water. Much work goes on behind the scenes. My sincere appreciation and thanks to the board members for really stepping up and getting things ready.
Remember to wear black next Wednesday.
As of this morning at 11:40, there were only 20 orchestra tickets available and 54 in the lower balcony.
A reminder of the schedule for Wednesday is printed below. Remember to park in the garage across from the Academy, Lynchburg Grand Hotel, and enter through the front doors
See you tomorrow night !
