…until our November 29 Christmas Spectacular. Our dress rehearsal on Nov 28 will be more of a "sound-check" than an actual rehearsal.
WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES…
- Yesterday I met with choir director Danny Moore to map out the program with the singers.
- Next Tuesday Steve, Danny, and I will be meeting with the folks at EC Glass to discuss lighting and sound. We want NO SHADOWS on stage. (There will be spots! Be prepared.)
- Two final songs to be handed out…Feliz Navidad and Visions of Sugarplums by Chris Sharp. They’re easy and should be good crowd-pleasers!
- We have secured two $1500 donations to underwrite the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert… AND …the American Legion has given us a generous donation of $2500 to underwrite the Sousa Centennial Concert at the Academy!
- The first elected board met Monday night for 2 hours and discussed fundraising, Christmas Concert yard signs, and much more!
Dear friends,
We have committed our time to do all this for you so that you may pursue your passion for music and develop your skills. Sometime ago at my urging the board adopted an attendance policy based upon inner-commitment in lieu of a strict "numbers-based" approach. With that in mind please remember…
As a member of the Lynchburg Pops Community Band I realize that we are building a community of like-minded musicians whose collective efforts will transform our lives as well as the lives of the audiences we play to. I realize that as a part of this band, my skills, my emotional life, and my personal artistry as a musician are being enhanced at each rehearsal and performance. I believe that the success of this ensemble is due in part, to my commitment to these ideals and to my fellow musicians.
With that in mind, I promise to be at every rehearsal possible, unless a personal illness, a family issue, or a professional obligation keeps me from attending. I will let the director and his/her designee know in advance when I must be absent. I also realize that when a performance is imminent, I may be called upon to rehearse or perform when I don’t feel 100%. I realize that whether or not I attend rehearsals is based solely upon my character and sense of commitment to my fellow teammates.
I predict we will have 1000 in attendance at our Christmas SPectacular. Let’s take them on an emotional musical journey through the joy of Christmas!
Jim
