This morning, Mark O’Brien (our set drummer) and I met at LU with Daryl Duff and pianist Dr. Paul Rumrill to iron out the details of Sammy Davis. I can’ wait for you to hear the piano and how it "fills in the blanks." What’s so amazing is that the written piano part is nothing more than the basic chords. But Paul uses the chords to create a fascinating accompaniment in the style of the piece. He’s extraordinary! Kudos to Mark as well for helping us to establish a solid rhythmical base for the medley. I regret that you won’t get to hear the piano until our warm-up at the Academy on March 1. Dr. Rumrill has another professional commitment this Thursday night out of town. Daryl has a commitment with his students out of town Friday and is leaving Thursday. He may or may not be with us Thursday evening. This is certainly not an ideal situation but trust me, they will pull it together at the concert. If Daryl can be there Thursday night we will briefly warm-up then do Sammy first. The singers will be with us as well.
