Dear Band Family !
I am happy to send the links for the audio and video of our Sousa Spectacular. You will see and hear for yourself the well deserved rave reviews for our first performance at the Academy and our fourth ever concert.
Can we rejoice together?
A year ago were were preparing for our first ever concert. We had begged to have the schools allow us to return so we could rehearse. We had only a few hundred dollars in our account and I couldn’t pay for a full year of insurance coverage. The board consisted of me, with Todd joining shortly afterwards as treasurer. Phil, our extraordinary Technology Officer volunteered shortly after that.
A year later, we have had our fourth concert. We have a great board of directors working hard for the benefit of our members and the community. Our audio and video contractors love working with us and look forward to the next concert. Daryl loves singing with us and we love having him. Paul Rumrill, Daryl’s colleague from LU and pianist at the Sousa concert was very impressed and has said he would love to participate with us in the future. We have picked up at least 6 new players increasing the depth of our instrumentation. The Academy has opened its arms wide and asked for a full calendar for 2024 so we may participate as a Performance Partner with all the perks that come with it. We’ve been offered rehearsal space by Hill City Music, our first and longest running supporter paying for vertical and horizontal banners in 2020, when he expands or moves to a bigger facility.
The name of the band is becoming well known all over Lynchburg. We have nearly 552 members on our Facebook page as of this writing. We have a great web site, thanks to Phil, and a YouTube channel, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Thanks to Earl Brooks, tuba player and band teacher at Heritage High School, we now have a far better rehearsal space than we did, and I believe the quality of the rehearsals and our ability to hear each other is evidence of that.
And all of this has happened in a little over a year since our return to rehearsals on January 22, 2022..
What follows the Sousa Spectacular ?
Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 29, 2023 7:30 pm

What does the future hold for us ? Every time I think we have achieved a goal and we can relax a little, Jim says, “…an idea came to me last night…” and I know I have to hold on to my hat because we are in for another wild ride !
