Dear friends,
I typically email you prior to Thursday night about the schedule. I have been waiting until I got the Sammy Davis Jr arrangement which came this morning. I WILL BE BRINGING THE PARTS IN HARDCOPY tomorrow night. There are several reasons why I have to do this.
- The files came to me as a FINALE file, not a pdf.
- I have to edit them slightly then print out each part.
- The clarinet part is 7 pages long. I am printing them back to back but I have to be sure that there are "measures rest" on the page turns. It doesn’t always work!
- Once I establish the new Finale parts then I can go back and create the pdfs
- There are 59 parts!
- The conductor’s score is 48 pages long. When you consider this is a 10 minute piece it’s typically like 3 selections within this one.
This is very time consuming but working directly with an established arranger this is what needs to be done sometimes. Once they are in pdf format they can be posted at our googledoc account. I think I can get this done tonight. Tomorrow I have to be at a funeral in Raleigh at 11 am, then come home for rehearsal.
We’ll spend about an hour on this arrangement tomorrow. As for the remainder of the rehearsal we will also read the new America the Beautiful.
I’m very pleased with how we are learning and retaining the music. Our remaining rehearsal time should be sufficient.
