THIS THURSDAY’S REHEARSAL WILL BE AT BROOKVILLE H.S. IN THE BAND ROOM!

For gps – 100 Laxton Road Lynchburg 24502

Enter the building via the main entrance. Walk a few steps to the first hallway and take a right. The band room is near the end of the hall on your left. Many thanks to our trombonist and band director at BHS, Mario Cruz for offering us his rehearsal room.

We only have 4 more rehearsals until our concert! Your preparation and focus during rehearsal time, and “my” preparation are essential to make it work. With that in mind, here is Thursday evening’s plan.

Balance Chords (2min)

Irish Tune from County Derry Run-through with focus on dynamics and shaping the phrases(expression). Don’t play notes-play music! (4min)

Lightning Fingers Run-through with Dr. Seipp. Hitting spots as needed. (10min)

Fanfare for the Common Man – Rehearse for note accuracy and expression. (15min)

You Raise Me Up – Very easy arrangement to get under the fingertips. Our challenge: to play “under” the soprano soloist and not overpower her.(10min)

The Carnival of Venice – Working each section for accuracy and precision. (15min)

Someone to Watch Over Me – Run-through. (4min)

Symphonic Dance no. 3 – Working each phrase for technical accuracy and dynamics, BACK-TO-FRONT. (50min.) BACK-TO-FRONT explanation:

We will begin at letter 0, the very last phrase (meas 179-188) and flush it out for accuracy. Trombones, going Down the Line is not out of the question if needed at meas 177-178. Then…

Letter N to 0 (meas 169-172) Then…

Letter 0 – END. You don’t need to have this rehearsal approach in your head. I will tell you when to play each phrase. This is just a heads-up on how we’re going to rehearse it.
