Dear friends,
As we look beyond Stage and Screen in March to our May concert focusing on Jazz, please take some time and listen to, and work the details for Rhapsody in Blue. If you wait until after the March 6 concert there will not likely be enough time to master it by May 15. It is 17 minutes long. When you consider the timing, most of the songs we play are 3:30-4 minutes long, R in B is like 4 songs in one. For that reason we will not be playing as many songs in May, but we will be onstage for the usual amount of time. The challenge of Rhapsody in Blue is not the rhythm or even its length, it is the awkward keys. Then once we nail down the parts, the further challenge will be mixing it with the piano in rehearsal. The more you understand the piece by then, the easier it will come together.
