Dear friends,

I’m a little late with this based on what I promised you. Suffice it to say that babysitting a 5 year old, 10 year old and a 16 year old took its toll yesterday and I fell asleep early.

Links to The Music Man and Greensleeves will hopefully be up on the website by the end of today when Phil gets back in town.

Last Thursday’s rehearsal was exceptionally good. Thank you all for your commitment to the band and to the music. The way you tackled Light Cavalry and the sight-reading of Greensleeves was inspirational to me!

We welcomed 2 new members, flutist Diane Collins and tuba-ist Flynn Van Fleteren. I speak for the band when I say we welcome their talents and what they will bring to the Pops.

Moving forward-until September’s concert at the community market our Thursday nights will be split between the chosen music for that presentation and new music. This coming Thursday please be ready for the following…

Come Thou Fount (Warm up for tuning, balance, and "big" sound.)

Washington Post March

Under the Sea (especially for newer folks. We may spend some significant time on this.)

Light Cavalry (Continuing to focus on getting the piece under our fingers. To do an orchestral transcription is to typically challenge the woodwinds, since ww’s usually have the string parts.)

Flutes/Clarinets go over meas 36-59 & 115-122

(We’ll save detailing Greensleeves for the next rehearsal.)

The Music Man (Review)

The Angels’ Carol

Logistical details for our performance at the Community Market will be forthcoming. It will not be an ideal performance-situation for us but it will get the word out that we are here!
